Another exciting year is upon us as we prepare for our 37th season of presenting outstanding classical music concerts in the Uncompahgre Valley! Once again, we will be offering the type of concert series that will feature pieces to suit concertgoers of every age. Several will also feature the marvelous talents of our own accomplished musicians from the Western Slope of Colorado. For the Orchestra, we will be starting with an October concert celebrating the breadth of classical music. A highlight of the concert will be Mozart’s Flute Concerto #2 in D Major K.314 - a piece that will feature a local flute soloist, and Valley Symphony Orchestra member, Gail Record. Franz Schubert’s Symphony No.8 in B minor "Unfinished" D 759 will be an another feature of this concert.
The centerpiece of the winter concert will be Paul Hindemith’s Trauermusik - Music of Mourning showcasing the talents of local Viola Soloist, Mary Ella House - also a Valley Symphony Orchestra member. Mozart’s Symphony No. 39 in Bb Major K. 543 will also be featured. We will end the orchestra concerts for the season with A Musical Journey of Spain in May and Valley Youth Orchestra will join in the fun. The ever-popular Gala Christmas Choral Concert by the Valley Symphony Chorus will a feature a variety of favorite holiday selections - which will get the entire family in the mood for the Christmas season. Also, the Valley Symphony Chorus will offer a Spring Choral Jubilee concert in April - a diverse and unique collection of choral works.
Valley Symphony Chorus Holding Auditions For New Members
The Valley Symphony Chorus is pleased to announce that auditions are being held for a few Chorus openings — and tenors and basses are particularly welcome. New members will be expected to participate in all choral rehearsals and concerts for the 2007-08 Season.
